Kumarakom

Coconut lagoon, located upon the Vembanad lake, is one of India’s largest inland lakes which possesses its own typical ecology that braces a plethora of natural life. The only way to reach Coconut Lagoon is by water. Just a kilometre upstream from the own boat jetty to the resort, the boat ride over the lake’s gentle swells, languid coconut palms and houses, sets the mood of your holiday to come - thrilling and unique, yet tranquil and nurturing! Coconut Lagoon is a right choice for the bird lovers; the resort will give you a feast for the eyes for many days of happy bird spotting. It will not be mindboggling to mention that the guest cottages at the coconut lagoon are individual works of art. These are the relocated remnants of the old mansions known as ‘tharavads’, that were on one occasion the family homes of the aristocratic people of the land. They were fetched here in segments and meticulously congregated by skilled craftspeople hence you could feel first-hand what it is to live in these ancient and celebrated houses of good old days. The resort preserves a very own sacred grove in the property as a homage to the environment that supports and sustains everything. It is a part of pristine ‘forest’ dedicated to nature, while preserving with a longstanding tradition.

The resort keeps rare recipes esteemed all around Kerala, that might be even mysterious to the outside world. Unquestionably, most of the recipes are gathered around fish dishes, most conspicuously ‘Karimeen’, the marvellous Pearl spot fish of the backwaters. It every so often ends up in the lengthy discourses (and arguments) among fish connoisseurs that the nuances of ‘Karimeen’ preparation.
